The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had scored just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
